flashabck friday: lesabre

In honor of LeSabre's passing this week I thought I'd bring back Flashback Friday with a phootgraph from our first ride in LeSabre.

This was January 2007.  We drove the car up from Georgia.  Even though it was a straight shot, and we were caravaning with the rest of the fam, it was kind of our first road trip ever.  I had blond hair, and the LeSabre was a dream to drive.

Here's to many more roadtrips!

be quotes.

B: Do you know about Pandora?
E: Yeah.
B: It's awesome.
E: Did you just hear about it?
B: Yeah.
E: How did you not know?
B: How did you not tell me?

Sometimes I wonder how B remains so untouched by the internet, yet he introduced ME to the old spice guy on youtube.  How did that happen?

Bye Bye LeSabre

This past weekend we said goodbye to LeSabre.  She was a good car to us during some very important years.  She saw us get married, too us on our honeymoon, survived the mean streets of Philadelphia, and followed us to Sunny So Cal.

It was time to let her go, so we decided to donate her to the local NPR station- KPCC.  I've been wanting to donate to public radio for some time now, but had never been able to swing it.  So, it was fulfilling to contribute in that way.

playing catch up

Things have been crazy in BE world.  The past month has been unreal as we've experienced many highs and lows, including the loss of Pop Pop, my wedding season jumping into high gear, and playing host to five extra roommates while B shot his thesis film.  It's not quite over either...I'm jetting off to Florida to shoot a wedding, then back to CA for B's graduation from AFI, then we're both off to MD for the wedding of a dear dear friend.

The past couple nights we enjoyed a couple quiet dinners at home alone, just taking a deep breath and catching up.  I'm really proud of everything we've done, survived, and accomplished both alone and together in the last month, and the last couple years.  We've started to look ahead and think about life post AFI.  I think we now think of life as pre-afi, and post-afi.  I'm really looking forward to the year to come.

I'm incredibly proud of my husband, and his hard work.  He never stops amazing me.

That's him, on the set of his thesis film, looking handsome. To see more check out my photo blog.

#58 Learn how to drive a mnual transmission

No joke...learning to drive a stick shift has been one of the MOST frightening items on my 101 list.  No joke, I have recurring anxiety dreams that involve me losing control of a car and crashing.  I'm not kidding.  I'm that crazy.  I can drive automatic no problem.  That's easy.  But something about manual terrified me- I felt like I was going to all of a sudden loose control, not be able to stop, or start falling backwards down a hill and crash our car!  So when it came time for me to learn I was a nervous wreck.  But I am happy to report I am ready to check it off the list.  I HAVE LEARNED.  I still get a little nervous, and I still need to practice, but I have made great strides.

The "ah ha" moment came when I realized having the clutch in is the same as neutral SO when you're puling away from a stop and you drift back it's BECAUSE you have the clutch in!  All I had to do was let off the clutch and put the car in gear and it's fine.  This may seem like a no brainer to some, but that was the clicking moment for me.

I made it to and from work on my own in the naughty blonde last weekend, which was nerve racking, and rough going at times (2nd gear is not my friend), BUT I proved I could do it!

Here are some videos of me on a driving lesson.  I like to talk through what I'm doing- it's how I learn.  Of course, every time B filmed nothing cool happened.  Then he'd turn off the camera and something funny would happen.  Go figure.
